Conversion Intro

Overview

Conversion Intro is the second-last map of The Reunion. Besides introducing a new testing element, Conversion Gel, it is a very vertical, but also wide-open and spacious level. This map is split into three sections; the first, or main area, the second, or conversion gel testing sphere, and the final elevator shaft section.

General Route

Although many ways of solving this chamber exist, the two main routes are, Catwalk Jump, and Lemonade Skip. The catwalk jump, Chapter 7 of Can't Even's Speedrunning Tutorial, is considered to be the easier of the two, however it is much slower.

Lemonade Skip is the primary route used by most fullgame and challenge mode runners, but can take a while to get consistent at due to its precision. You can learn how to do this trick from the video below. Ultimate Lemonade Skip Tutorial

Lemon Skip is an older and slower version of lemonade skip in which you had to go into the office in order to get stuck. Since the discovery of lemonade skip, this trick is more or less obsolete considering it's increased difficulty and time consuming setup.

Challenge Mode Specific

Lemonade Skip Optimizations

Lemonade Skip is the route preformed by all top level challenge mode runners. Despite this trick already being the fastest way of completing this chamber, some slight optimizations have been found, in order to set up this trick as fast as possible, such as Zyntex's Coord Lineup

There are no dialogue cues or Elevator Cues for this map.

History

Possibly the first video showcasing Conversion Intro's Super Reportal

The first variant of this route was found in March of 2013, not long after the discovery of the Super Reportal. Back then, it was possible only with Save Loads, meaning that NoSLA and CM runners were not able to use it. Since then, runners and routers were theorizing a way to perform this trick without utilizing Save Loads.

A first major breakthrough was NeKz's discovery of a new way of Super Reportalling, showcased in a video published on September 24th of 2014. He found out that by placing a portal in a corner and then walking into the portal on the other side, one can position themselves just in a right position to not get bumped away from a wall when placing a portal away, allowing them to get stuck and then perform Super Reportal. This proved that this glitch is possible without Save Loading.

Unfortunately, there were still two problems that had to be solved. Firstly, this method of Super Reportalling allows you to gain only a small amount of speed (not greater than 1400 up/s), which is not enough for Conversion Intro. It's caused by a physics engine pushing you away from a wall about a second after you get stuck in it. To prevent it, you would have to get stuck much deeper into the world brush. Secondly, even if we managed to get stuck deep enough, a catapult trigger covering entire angled surface in Conversion Intro pushes you away from a brush as soon as you reach its lower threshold velocity, meaning that a way to disable it or avoid its effect had to be found.

NeKz's new way of Super Reportalling

In the same video where NeKz is showcasing his new way of Super Reportalling, he somehow clipped a couple of units into a ground without Save Loading. Years after this video was published, on November 3rd of 2019, Krzyhau, with help from bill_play, found a way to reproduce this glitch, which would later be called Clip Stuck. Shortly after it was proven that it was possible to perform this glitch in the Conversion Intro's Super Reportal spot.

Months later, on March 17th 2020, the last piece of the puzzle was found. Krzyhau discovered a way to avoid the catapult trigger's effects by leaving and entering it in less than a couple of ticks. With that knowledge, the first Super Reportal without Save Loading in Conversion Intro was successfully executed.

Lemon Skip

Lemon Skip was the old method for getting clip stuck in the slanted surface, and involved you going into the office area to shoot your stuck portal. Although this route has been superseded by Lemonade Skip, the setup is listed below.

Original Setup

Krzyhau's setup:

  • Blue portal in the office, near the exit door
    pos: 1078.624023 -1621.109131 -1397.326416 ang: 27.104319 -67.174484 0
  • Orange portal at slanted surface, before getting stuck
    pos: 2102.428 948.371 -1692.093 ang: 35.852467 118.526 0
