Laser Over Goo

Overview

Laser Over Goo is the fourth map in The Cold Boot. There are three main routes that all save more time than the last, but also are harder than the last.

General Route

The start of the map has a small cutscene where a set of panels retracts into the wall. The trigger to activate the animation is at the top of the stairs, past the catwalk. Hit that trigger as quickly as possible to activate the animation. You can prehop this animation by starting your hops when the top left panel visible starts moving left towards its "natural" position in the wall. After getting past those panels, enter the chamber itself as quickly as possible.

Beginner Route

Shoot one portal over by the cube dropper, and then shoot the other portal on the wall to the left of the chamber enterance, ensuring the portal is in the center of the three panels. Walk through the portals so that you're over by the cube dropper, then place the portal closer to you onto where the laser is hitting on the back wall. Then, press the button to grab the cube.

Stand in the back corner of the cube dropper area (To the left of the button), then shoot away the laser portal when you can see about half of the moving panel. Grab the cube, then bunnyhop from the cube dropper on to the now stopped panel. Bunnyhop from the panel over to the end of the map.

Intermediate Route

The intermediate route involves a Super Reportal and can be difficult to perform by beginners, however is much easier than the advanced Wetmaker route, with a good compromise of only being a second or two slower than the Wetmaker route.

Start by portaling over to the cube area as quickly as possible, meaning you can use the portal surfaces directly next to the door, instead of farther on the wall like the Beginner route. Press the button to grab the cube, then somewhere on the left wall of the cube area, shoot the same portal as already in that area, then walk slightly into it. Portal again to push yourself out, look towards the right, and then shoot that same portal one more time. You should get stuck.

Shoot the opposite portal to the one you're in 3 times on the opposite wall, with the final portal being in line with you. After those, shoot the portal you're inside to the top left of the back wall of the chamber. From there, grab the cube. The game will unstick you, causing you to exit the wall with speed to go through the portal close to you, and out the other portal across the gap of Goo.

Advanced Route

Start the same way as the Intermediate route, by getting over to the cube dropper area as quickly as possible. When in that area, shoot one portal on the farthest panel on the wall to the right of the button, and one in a similar spot to the far portal for the Intermediate Route (image shown).

You're then going to perform a Reportal jumping through the closer portal and shooting it on a portal surface to the right of the farther portal, looking downwards. Grab the cube, toss it through the closer portal, perform the jumping reportal, then grab the cube. Speed from the reportal should take you and the cube over to the ending platform, landing on the panel.
