Pit Flings

Overview

Pit Flings is the seventh map of The Cold Boot. It only has one main route, though there are both easier and harder variations for both Fullgame and Challenge Mode.

General Route

The route for Pit Flings involves a Super Reportal. After getting into the chamber, shoot a portal on any wall, ensuring the portal is touching the foor. Face away from the button and exit door, look down at angle 63.xx, and walk backwards. When you reach maximum walking speed (175.00 units per second), shoot the opposite portal to the one you placed on the wall. Shoot that same portal a little away from you to get stuck in the ground. For a safer or faster route, see below.

Easier Route (3 Reportals)

Shoot 3 times on a wall, using the portal you had on the wall to shoot. After some time, you'll be automatically unstuck out of the ground by the game and flung up into the air. Shoot a portal on the right slanted surface, then one below you to funnel in. Scripted Momentum will fling you towards the button platform.

A visual and angle lineup for the button stick

When you're at the button platform, stand in the corner closest to the exit door, and look towards a horizontal angle of about -53.7. Hold forward and the button should get stuck. From there, shoot the left slanted surface, jump down into the pit and fling towards the exit door.

Faster Route (5 Reportals)

If you're fast enough to shoot on the wall 5 times for the super reportal, you can get enough speed to fling directly to the ending platform with some strafing. Note that there is a clipbrush that will block you from getting onto the exit platform, so you do need to strafe around it.

Challenge Mode Specific

For a faster Super Reportal setup, if you look diagonally away from the exit door when entering the chamber, you can do an off-axis Super Reportal by looking at angle 67.xx instead of 63.xx.
